From Raeford, NC, we have Kayla O. AKA Ricke Bobby! Last year was Kayla's first year competing in bounty holes, but she r home a 3rd place in overall points for the small tire side by side class in 2021.
"I first drove a SXS in March of 2020, a Polaris 900S. It was more than just a machine. It was an escape. It allowed me to let any worries or stressors from the week just flow out through the wind. It also brought smiles to my children's faces. I first heard of bounty hole racing and never thought I would ever race in a million years. I watched a few and would listen to everyone say, "you need money," "you need experience," it is for the big guys. So I squashed the idea for a bit. Then I thought, I may start gaining experience and soak up all the knowledge of my competitors/ new friends. I dropped into the first bounty hole at Deep Creek ATV park 2021 and blew my front differential. Was I discouraged, yes? Did I quit? NO! I ordered one and was back in the next race. I learned so much from everyone I met, and it was not about winning; it was about the knowledge gained, the friendships made. Seeing people I barely know who sometimes feel discouraged, we all dust the mud off and keep going. I may not have all the money or the experience, but I will continue to learn and make friends. I want to show my children that if you are scared of something, just learn about it, and they might be surprised at what they enjoy. I won third place overall in my class's six-series bounty hole race. It is a new season, and I just purchased a 2022 Can-Am® Maverick Sport XMR 1000R and cannot wait to build her up for all of my next adventures. The point is not to win; the point is wanting to win and never give up. P.S. I still shake from nerves every time I line up, but the rush and dirt in my teeth make the nerves go away.”
Kayla is coming in hot for 2022 now that she's got a full season under her and a brand new machine! We can't wait to see how she does this year!
